I had such an amazing opportunity to talk with Miriam Henke, life coach and psychologist. She is an inspiring lady who helps people achieve what they want in life, through the best ways possible. Get to know her more in her interview below.

Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I’m a registered psychologist and life coach, with a passion for health and wellbeing, and a supporter of complementary and alternative therapies. I work from my home consulting room, and help people with a wide range of problems and goals feel better, think better and lead better lives.

Share your journey, which has landed you in the health industry.
From the age of 15 I knew I wanted to be a psychologist, after all everyone seemed to tell me their problems and confide in me their secrets. The mind has always been a fascinating thing to me! I went straight into studying psychology at university following school and completed my Honors degree at age 21. Then things went “off course” when I didn't make it into the masters program the following year, which you need to be a psychologist. Seems my research thesis had been a bit controversial (researching spirituality and its impact on cancer patients’ wellbeing). So I took a career detour, which found me studying life coaching and I started my coaching business in 2006.

I studied neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), Time Line Therapy and Hypnosis as a means of helping my clients make real change and achieve their goals, which has been great – my clients get fantastic results and most of my work comes from word-of-mouth referrals. Always interested in health, I found myself really getting into the idea of self-healing and how to heal the body through the power of the mind. Determined to finished what I started many yeas before, I went back to university with a heap of experience working with clients under my belt. I completed my Masters in Psychology (Health) in 2012, in which I got to do research into mind-body therapies, and now I not only work one-on-one with clients, I also teach what I do in Health Coaching courses and NLP Practitioner Training.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Watching my clients blossom before my eyes, breaking old habits, reducing their anxieties and feeling more confident as they achieve their goals. It’s a major buzz!

How to do you stay motivated to do what you do?
Truly, I have the best job that I love. I really enjoy getting to the root of people’s problems, and helping them live happier and healthier lives. Every time a client reports back to me that their feeling better, achieved a major milestone or didn’t have their problem return it tells me I’m doing a good job and gives me the motivation to keep doing this work. Plus, I get to change things up with my teaching, and recently I started writing eBooks and blogs, both of these things allow me to express myself and share the knowledge I've gathered through my career.

What inspires you to go out and learn more to improve your services?
There’s always something new to learn, and education keeps the mind fresh. If there’s ever a client whom I find a challenge, it inspires me to learn how to help them and immediately apply what I've learned.

What inspires you to feel happy?
Living a meaningful life, doing good work, developing myself holistically, having a robust and fun intimate relationship with my fiancé, practicing active gratitude, and placing self-care high on the priority list keep me happy.

How do you kickstart your day?
A cuddle with my fiancé Michael is the best way to start the day, followed by a green smoothie and some stretching or yoga. And maybe a little bit of Facebook…

Biggest achievement?
It’s a close call between completing my Masters Degree (and topping my class!), and quitting paid employment (in 2010) and forging my way in my own business, to the point where its financially thriving and creating a nice lifestyle for me.
